Little bits of power for communications and sensors is a start, but the real improvements will be when nuclear and atomic power sources (using “nuclear fuels”, “atomic fuels) are applied to high power things like transportation, mining, processing. And by processing, I mean like melting rocks and separating the component atoms. Making roads, buildings, tunnels, shelters – from local materials. Add up a few of the requirements of Earth based industries, and you need MegaWatts, GigaWatts, TeraWatts and more. For space transportation, PetaWatts and ExaWatts at Elon Musk grand vision scale. There are lots of remote places on Earth to make such things. They can use their own local power. Then launch directly to orbit and ship to the Moon and Mars, or install directly into ships and systems.
In the Bruce Willis movie, the 5th Element, there is a guy putting a glowing fuel cell into the star ship (the real kind), That is the kind of size, relative to the mass and size of the ship. If atomic fuels are used for Earth to orbit, then the atomic energy heats, ionizes and accelerates water. But I am looking at ways to convert nuclear energies directly into electromagnetic and gravitational fields (acceleration fields).
You are kind of right about steam, but most of the inefficient designs are NOT technology limited — they are limited because of human greed. Each group wanting fame and riches for themselves, like winning the jackpot. Rather all groups working on energy should work together. The knee jerk behavior now is “I found something, I will hoard that and make a trillion” [ If people work together, trillionaires will be common. ] If the human species cannot monitor and distribute the results of new innovations fairly and for the benefit of all humans, not just a few in positions of authority or access — we deserve the fate that comes with that social pathology.
Yes, when I spent 25 years to search “Why do all these global and systemic issues take decades or longer?” In every case it can be traced to our obsolete and dangerous human group habit of hoarding knowledge for a few. I call those “Internet pathologies” or “group pathologies.” They are deadly and inefficient for global and heliospheric societies. Correspondingly, with global sharing, all humans, not just a few rich ones in a few rich countries controlling knowledge, can live lives with dignity and purpose. With AIs keeping open and auditable accounts, such methods can be applied to all global and heliospheric projects and systems and human lives.

Anton Petrov, Thanks. Mass is determined by its gravitational acceleration (the gradient of the gravitational potential). When you say “small mass” you also mean small coupling to the gravitational field, through its gradient. Those squiggly lines have a spectrum and that spectrum gives the whole proton its shape. A proton on the earth has a different gravitational field and energy density than a proton on the sun. It is not random wiggly lines, it is highly structured, unless you ping it not at its resonances. Jefferson needs to cover the range from microElectronVolts to 100 MeV very very very finely. The resonances are very narrow and geometrically specific. Your care with avoiding hype is admirable. Anton Petrov, There are a lot of stars, and a lots of data sources. Even with billions of humans, too few of them have the tools and training for the huge number of outstanding questions.
I wonder if it is possible some of these things are as close as the Oort cloud. I also heard that when galaxies collide, there are always interactions between individual stars and bodies that will fling some completely out of the merged galaxy. Those wandering intergalactic bodies. A statistical mechanics process at large scale. A kind of ark traveling between immense distances.
You are providing a valuable service, and I think you are beginning to ask better questions. I hope you have good advisors, staff and researchers.
When you send people to Arxiv and similar sites, send the to the /abs/ , rather than the PDF. So they can bookmark, get the full title and abstract. Many of the PDFs have bad names, and all PDFs do not share equations, data, models, and methods in open and immediately useable formats. Most are not complete but require massive effort to trace all the pieces – just like your questions – which are good, but lack in good method for solving them.

Anton Petrov, This is very interesting. It struck me for several reasons. First, it is a good story for Sodom from the bible, and a likely legend or word of mouth history process. Diffusion and sharing of knowledge, now, is more often spread by story, then by facts.
Second, it reminds me, anyway, that our schools teach too narrow a sense of time and range. Our universe is much larger than the big bang region (deliberately lower case), and our recorded history and “official accounts” are tiny fractions of the information that is available about the past and future.
You need a better way to share your research. The limited range of YouTube description areas limits what you can put there and how people can interact on YT. You can put a global sharing site online, and refer people their to specific starting points. If you integrate GPT human language translation, you can have the GPT trained on specific topics as a human language interface to topics where you know the pieces and how they are likely connected.
This definitely illuminated a part of my model of the universe. I can see more clearly that the bronze ago was not primitive at all, and the earlier copper and stone ages as well. People then were as smart as now, perhaps wiser in some thing, but still creative, interacting, striving to live their lives.
I doubt I will see a major modern city destroyed by a meteor shower (that is much clearer now), but we have lots of earthquakes and volcanoes and tsunamis and drought and wars in the mean time

I have been working with gravitational imaging arrays for the last couple of decades, and have tried to encourage groups to scan the interior of the Moon now from earth using arrays of low cost, three axis, high sampling rate gravimeters. These use the whole earth as part of the detection network. There are also methods that work well to measure time dependent gravitaitonal field from drones and from orbit. You will see terms like “gravity gradiometer” and “tensor gravimeter”.
The important direction I have been trying to get groups to move in, is toward sample rates fast enough to use “time of flight” so that gravitational field data can be processed to generate 3D imagines of the interiors of the Moon, Earth, Sun, Mars and other bodies – remotely, with small arrays.
You can track the sun and moon directly from their gravity and magnetism now. The sensors are getting that sensitive, and fast. And the price is slowly dropping. Instead of spending a quarter million dollars for an OK senors, you can get better ones, much more sensitive, and by using machine learning and correlation imaging algorithms, create 3D images (visualizations) of the internal properties of things.
That includes the surface of the sun, its convection zone, the Earth’s atmosphere, its ocean, the cores of all planets and the sun. While some of what we classify as “gravity” for the Earth and Moon is actually “magnetism”, there is clearly ideal Newtonian gravitational fields that are not attenuated by matter that much, and so looking inside solid bodies in real time for (1 meter)^3 resolution is now possible, if still a bit pricey.
