I am looking at solar flows , with chemical and isotopic compositions, densities and mass.

I do not have a telescope but I wanted to share what I am doing with Helioviewer, aiming to add some features perhaps. If you are far ahead, please have patience.

This is SDO AIA 171 with 15 minute running differences at about 80%, and SDO AIA 304 no difference at 100%. What the difference highlights are the flows. 171 is Fe IX is quiet corona upper transition region. And the 304 is He II chromosphere at the transition region. These soft looking things are not static, they are flows in the solar atmosphere. At least that is my simple picture so far.

I use a screen clipper to record the screen settings It is hard to visualize what happens from control numbers.

I am looking at flows, imagining Texas sized voxels, with chemical and isotopic compositions, densities and mass. So thinking of wind blown sand and dust is easier that invisible “atmosphere and fields”. My limited ability to see the invisible. And no control over what groups posts on the web for their own purposes and goals.

Is the purpose of the group to only post Halpha and other filtered images and videos of the sun, taken by amateur solar photographers? Taking and gathering the images is followed by software, mathematics, science and algorithms to process the images. Then discuss and try to understand, convey messages and ideas. To study, to try to understand the world, make new things. If you do not like something, explain why and discuss. Sometimes when you clarify why something seems wrong, you better understand your own directions and goal and hopes for life. Or when you see something and try to explain why. It is the attempt when there is learning. There are 5.4 Billion people using the public Internet now. As the Internet becomes more integrated and intelligent, new things are going to be possible that most people have not even dreamed of. Where and how people learn now makes a huge difference in the shape of tomorrow, and what will be possible.

I do not have a telescope, but if I was facing bad skies, I would turn to studying the sky that is there and try to apply those clouds, rains, winds. light, detection and analysis processes to the sun. And because there is more data on the sun every day online, try to use that to understand what is going on in static and video images of the sun. A virtual or recorded sun is better than no sun at all.

I have never been to Wisconsin, and probably won’t before I die. But then I have never been to the sun either. Both are worthy of study and respect, with potential for growth, learning and contributions. I dream of using gravitational sensor networks to image fine details in the atmosphere and convection zones on the sun. But no amount of praying or sacrifices seems to matter, so best to have a larger plan and do what you can when you have time, not on the sky’s schedule. I try to use all the internet as a telescope to see the heavens, earth, humans, nature, and the universe.

I do pray a lot, but never expect anything at all. If something is important enough to kill small animals, would you spend time working to improve things and share globally online so there are always open lossless data streams equal or better than what comes from your telescope cameras? A satellite camera is just another sensor in what is now a heliospheric network looking at everything, including the sun, 24/7.

The job of science is not just to gather data, but to share and understand it. Maybe “It is raining!! Great! I have been wanting to compare my images to what all the space telescopes have for that event I recorded – including the space weather proton flow records.”

Dear Houston Public Libraries,

I do not understand. Is Houston Public Libraries an independent non-profit organization that receives both private donations and government funding? Or it a government agency asking for private donations?

I mean that sincerely. I am just getting older and I see a lot of groups asking for money or time. I do not have time to research every one. So I am asking, rather than trying to read yet another sprawling website. If you are a government agency, is there such a thing as a government agency 990?

I have no transportation and it is hard to walk, so I no longer go to physical libraries and events. I buy used science, engineering mathematics books online. The difficult ones of yesterday are discarded today and ignored today. I can take longer to read and study them, than a fixed period from a library.  There is a virtual “library” of all the books in Houston – if it were indexed and accessible some way.

All the knowledge in the world, Houston Public Library serving all 5.4 Billion humans using the Internet. With 2.8 Billion more to make 8.2 Billion humans now?

Brian Orr Not sure how that is relevant. I posted something I was working on using Helioviewer but it was removed without explanation by someone. My first full time job was in 1970 tracking all satellites and things in orbit. I used satellites to track vegetation when I set up the Famine Early Warning Systems (FEWS.net) for USAID and the State Department in the mid 1980s. I track and review sites that share data of all sorts, including all satellite and space sensors. To me multispectral sensors and sensor fusion are the basics. I thought the group was about observing and studying the sun — in all ways.

I would at least compare the H alpha images from here to the same times from all the satellites. I have asked about methods here and sharing data. But I guess every one is busy. I will book mark the group and try again later.
