The “mitochondrial network” never acts in isolation, but always acts as part of the whole. The individual mitochondria might feel they are the center of “the outside world”. But their life paths are dominated by their local events and relationships.
Many networks of numerous parts feel they are “large”, but are small relative to the whole. Yet dependent. The trick is to faithful account for all the small entities, their events and relationships. The whole is not likely to be comprehensible to humans in a two minute or two hour or five decade attention span, but AIs might be able to hold and change it precisely.
