The energy stored in “chemical bonds” with just a few electron volts per bond can be supplemented by materials with KiloElectronVolts (Kilo_eV, KeV) per bond or MeV per bond. These have correspondingly higher energy densities, bond densities, and strengths. Methane combustion is only a few eV per molecule. An “atomic bond” can be KeV per molecule or particle.

You see it already in nanotubes, nanowires, nanosheets (and smaller) where the strengths go beyond the naturally occurring “fuels” and “chemical materials”.

A 100x “atomic fuel” would be like taking the fuel stack from SpaceX Starship launches and reducing that (without the need for oxygen) to fuel and energy elements a hundredth the volume and mass.  100 meters for a fuel tank and chemical combustion to 1 meter for a fuel module and field generators.

With less to lift, more is carried. A fuel module of that sort could take you to Moon and back, get you to Mars and one day, solar system and Oort resources. Near and far stars and places.  Nice or critical to have on Earth and space where you need to work remotely and independently – small, smart, fast, efficient, reliable, survivable, cost effective.
