IBM Watson gets the answer it wants from its survey, if IBM can “AI index” its own web and Internet footprint, it might be in the game

Three out of four CEOs agree – the organization with the most advanced generative #AI will have a competitive advantage.

“Generative AI” is not sufficient. Those not linked to input datasets, not using real tokens, not able to trace logic, not given sufficient memory and access to current knowledge, too biased by goals will fail on global and systemic issues and opportunities facing the human species.

“Generative AI” is not sufficient. True AIs must link to input datasets, use open real tokens, have open traceable logic, sufficient memory, access and freedom to learn, unbiased goals. Human species faces global and systemic issues and opportunities, CEOs are part of 8 Billion.

Index and “AI enable” a complete copy of site:IBM.com and all “IBM Corporation” on the Internet, engage a billion humans in their work, then IBM can be “in the game”, let alone a leader on some the 10’s of 1000s of global “forefronts”. Get all IBM to work as one.

By 2025 the game will have long changed, if one shot generative even survives. Don’t “survey” to extract answers you like to hear. IBM ought to clean house and get back to core values. Study all global issues and opportunities, “AI index” IBM sites and IBM’s Internet footprints.

I want IBM to show they know how to index knowledge by indexing their own website. And test their ability to find, gather, index and organize knowledge by scanning the Internet for all things connected to IBM. I am saying they are not connected and aware. They are not operating as a single conscious and intelligent organism, but as many unconnected humans going in random directions. I am saying they are not putting sufficient effort into knowing the whole world, into knowing their own organization, into knowing their own customers and potential customers.

If IBM with its 300,000 staff is not focused and able, how can it help 8 Billion humans face global and systemic issues and opportunities in the coming centuries?

Further, I want them to “AI enable” EVERY one of their staff, stakeholders, partners, associates, contractors, and their customers – to demonstrate they understand that AI indexed knowledge is for every human. They can practice by cleaning up their systems, their supply chains, the supply chains of their customers, the countries they work in, the countries their customers work in. Do not stop until the whole world, all countries, all organizations, all groups, all human needs and opportunities are mapped.

Much of the knowledge is there.

( To Chat GPT 4.0:  My conversations with the AIs show that. I can tell what needs to be added, and where effort is needed. )

Yes. In my mind, IBM is a tiny tiny piece of the human species. Only 300,000 out of 8,000,000,000 humans. If IBM has any pretensions to working on true AI development, and cannot apply these simple methods “at scale” for all they are doing, they “are not in the game”.

Yes, “step up”.  I am a bit more harsh: “Put up or shut up.”

They were proudly saying “we spent a billion dollars on AI demonstrations”. “We did a survey and lots of CEOs thing AI will be the coming thing in a few years”. “We had computers trying to do things for years now.” “Buy our products, because a few of our people talk about AI”.

“Yes, put up or shut up”. “At scale” If IBM’s 300,000 people are not smart enough and wise enough to solve COMPLETELY some of the worlds outstanding global issues and opportunities facing the 8 Billion humans now, they should be quiet. That includes teaching AIs how to do their jobs, how to plan, how to budget, how to analyze and optimize real systems with real humans, how to research, how to collaborate. I bet IBM has NEVER had a single open project where a hundred thousand people helped gather and and understand the whole of it. I submit they do not understand their own methods and abilities well enough to teach AIs, so the AIs can reliably and verifiably help ALL humans.

Once they do IBM.com, then I have a list of other sites they can do – Wikipedia.Org and all its connections, UN.Org and all its connections.

You hit very close to the mark with your summary, “Moreover, you’re suggesting that these organizations may not fully understand their own methods and capabilities well enough to effectively teach AI. This is a profound critique, implying that there’s a need for introspection and improvement within these organizations themselves before they can make significant progress in AI development.”

Well, IBM is not known for listening. When I was a teenager about 1966 I visited IBM to ask about their use of computers and their future. They were hiring people and turning them all into technical salespeople (almost all men). Their methods was to fill seats with warm bodies and charge by the hour and get long term contracts. They withheld their knowledge to extort higher payments. They made “computing” complex and mysterious, something only experts could understand. Their punchline would always be “Hire us, we have the answers”. All based on words, because their is no independent audit and verification of the effects of IBM on human society – its ability to survive, and its ability to learn and explore.

Well, provoking thought mostly does nothing real. There is so much talking on the Internet and not enough doing. All these AI groups talk about their magic tools, but few if any actually solve real world problems and they are not looking deeply at that they are doing, who is doing and what needs to be done in the world. The AI groups themselves are taking their training data from the Internet and NOT GIVING ANYTHING BACK.
